Bahrain Club lift table tennis title

HAMAD Buhiji led Bahrain Club to retain the second edition of the Super Cup Table Tennis Championship after defeating bitter rivals Saar 3-1 in the title clash.

Held at the Bahrain Table Tennis Association premises in Umm Al Hassam, Bahrain Club players were too strong for their opponents, winning three matches in the best-of-five final tie.

It was another thrilling final between the two clubs who met last month in the league deciding encounter which was also by Bahrain Club who retained the trophy for the 13th time in their history.

In the first match, Buhiji cme from a set behind to beat Saar's second top player Mohammed Radhi 5-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9.

But Saar's powerhouse Anwar Makki put his side level after a 11-9, 11-9, 12-10 victory over Rashid Al Majid in another closely-fought match.

However, Bahrain Club regained their lead thanks to Sayed Adnan Kadhim who was too hot for his opponent Sayed Alawi Hashim with a three-set victory of 11-9, 11-9, 11-9.

Buhiji took on Makki in the awaiting fourth match which was won by the former 12-10, 11-4, 11-8 to seal the tie for Bahrain Club and with it the title.

The final tie was attended by BTTA president Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa who presented the trophy to Bahrain Club members and honoured Saar with the second-place award.
